Cal OES Prepositions Firefighting Resources in Colusa, Yolo Counties Due to Renewed Red Flag Conditions

With renewed Red Flag Warnings and extreme fire conditions in Northern California this week, the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) has strategically prepositioned critical fire resources to include fire engines and water tenders in Colusa and Yolo counties.

The prepositioned fire resources include:

Colusa County: 4 Local Government Type 3 Engines,1 Local Government Type 2 Engine, 1 Local Government Type 1 Water Tender

Yolo County: 3 Local Government Type 3 Engines, 1 Local Government Type 1 Water Tender, 1 Local Government Type 2 Water Tender

The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning and is forecasting extreme fire weather over parts of Northern California into Wednesday morning. According to National Weather Service Sacramento, northerly winds were expected to increase late Monday before tapering off Wednesday. In addition, extreme heat is forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday with possible record highs above 100 degrees across Northern California.

The public is urged to remain aware of their surrounding conditions and to avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation. The public is also reminded to have an emergency plan in place, emergency preparedness kits at home and vehicles full of fuel. Sign-up for emergency alerts, listen to local authorities and warnings, and be prepared to evacuate if necessary.

The Cal OES Warning Center and State Operations Center will monitor conditions and be ready for further resource requests as necessary.
